The painting dates back to a crucial transition in Zigaina's artistic career: 1957 was the year when the Friulian painter had moved away from his Neorealist period to embrace a more hermetic, emblematic, and visionary vision, in which reality blends with dreams. An important work, this Ceppaia from 1957 precedes the long series of oils on the same subject that Zigaina would develop throughout the 1960s, thus acquiring historical and documentary value.
